Why research God?
This website is an attempt to help people who are looking for concise and sensible answers to the meaning of life. These answers try to summarize the dizzying amount of religious and spiritual guidance that is available, by emphasizing common themes and advice. The closer we get to God, the more consistent and congruent the answers become.
Many of us think that if there is a meaning to life, it must be hidden and complicated. Those of us who try to look for answers are confronted with confusing, conflicting, and sometimes intimidating doctrine, dogma and advice. However, in varying degrees we suspect that there must be more to life than is readily apparent, and we intuitively feel a connection to a creator. We often refer to this creator as God.
Some people wonder about their origins from a scientific point of view, but they can only follow the trail back as far as the Big Bang theory. Then they reach a dead end because science cannot explain who or what caused the Big Bang. Another thing that science cannot explain is the mystery of consciousness.
The full love and wonder of God is veiled from us while we are anchored in this physical life, but God is not hidden. It is easy to understand the essence of His character and what He asks of us. It is also possible to understand and reconcile the relationship between God, religion, spirituality, and science. This can be done without compromising any authentic love-based beliefs that we may already have.
God is beyond male and female, but we assign a male gender and human characteristics to God because it helps many of us relate to Him. You should feel free to understand God in whatever way generates the most love in your heart.
God created you, so while you are researching God you cannot avoid learning about yourself. Even though God gave you freewill, you and God will always be connected and inseparable.
Each of us arrives at our own unique understanding of God. There is no harm in this as long as our understanding motivates us to develop unconditional love for God, ourselves, and each other. This love lies at the heart of all authentic religions.
Research God with an open mind, and do not worry or get frustrated if you do not agree with or understand all of the ideas or concepts that you will encounter during your search. There are many ways of knowing God, and we are all at different stages of spiritual growth, so no single spiritual approach or religion is suitable for everyone.
Religions are successful when they teach unconditional love, because what God cares about is the love within you. Whether you subscribe to a particular religion is not important. What is important is how you develop and grow your ability to love.
You will accelerate your spiritual development and become more loving if you try to live your life according to the Golden Rule. This means that you treat others the way that you would like them to treat you.
The Golden Rule is found at the heart of all authentic religion and spirituality, and it is a central theme of this website. Therefore, this website will complement the basic elements of many diverse love- based religious and spiritual teachings. However, as you browse this website you will find alternative ways of understanding God which you may not encounter as part of traditional teaching.
You already have eternal life because you are a soul, and a soul cannot die. When your body dies, you leave it and go home to realms of existence that are generally not perceptible while you are temporarily living in the physical world.
It may take time and reflection to understand and assimilate what you are and why you are here. Do not be disappointed if you do not "get it" immediately. God will help you if you sincerely ask Him to guide you on your spiritual journey.
You will probably be skeptical as you research God, but keep an open mind, and don’t just be skeptical of concepts that are new to you. Be skeptical about everything that you have already been conditioned to believe. Recognize that all your life you have been subjected to concepts and ideas that may be wrong, and which could be restricting your growth today.
Knowledge and understanding of God will help you to grow spiritually when it results in more loving behavior. It will therefore affect what happens when your body dies and you leave it and go home. It is your decision as to how much you would like to know about God, but be careful that you do not spend too much of your time in the pursuit of knowledge and facts rather than wisdom and love. God's simple spiritual message of love can become complicated and obtuse through over-analysis and endless questioning.
A great way to get closer to God is to use love-based behavior as the measure of your spiritual development.
Our bodies live in a physical universe that consists of three dimensions of space and one of time. God's creation includes many more dimensions than we can perceive with our bodily senses. It is not possible to prove the existence of God using the very limited science of our physical universe.
If you sincerely want to understand what you are and why you are here, you will need to use your intuition and intellect to open your heart and learn to love and be loved. You will also need to develop or strengthen your trust in God. Your reward for doing this is the unimaginable peace and happiness you will feel when you are fully exposed to the love of God after you move beyond your physical life.
If you do nothing more right now than decide to be a nicer and kinder person, it would be a great and easy step in your growth as a soul.
